artist statement

I have always been fascinated by the interplay among color, form and line, as well as transparency, opaqueness and depth.  Painting allows me to explore this fascination in two and sometimes three dimensions.

My work rarely involves discernible objects.  Rather, I examine the interaction among geometric shapes. Life is complicated and, in a very abstract sense, I am reflecting on all the intricacies of interrelationships, problems and confrontations – the components of everyday existence.

By combining transparency and opaqueness, I strive for a balance of subtlety and strength. It’s what I seek in my own life and, while I don’t always achieve it, I think it’s a worthy goal.
